Lynette MacDonald - Howden Grass Roots Hero

We are thrilled to announce that Glenrothes Amateur Swimming Club has won a 2nd place prize of £250 in the Howden Grassroots Heroes competition! Our entry for Lynette MacDonald was picked as one of the runner ups for her hard work and effort as Fundraising Convener of Glenrothes Amateur Swimming Club.

Lynette started fundraising role for the club in February 2023, after previously volunteering in other ways to support the club over many years.

Lynette puts her heart and soul into everything she does, and it shows. She dreams up fun, creative ideas to making sure every raffle, race night, and car wash runs like clockwork. She’s the engine that keeps our fundraising efforts not just successful, but full of energy and good vibes. Her passion for the club and our swimmers is second to none, and she always manages to bring people together with her positivity and sense of fun. Whether she’s rallying volunteers, sourcing prizes, or just adding her sparkle to events, Lynette makes a huge difference. In 2024 Lynette supported the club to raise just under £5,000 towards the cost of the first Summer Training Camp in Lanzarote, which was an incredible experience for all the swimmers. She also raised just under £6,000 towards the club’s general funds to help meet the cost of pool hire and equipment. This is on top of the £5,500 raised in 2023 when Lynette first took on the role.

Lynette also contributed to the community outside of the swimming club, working in social care services supporting vulnerable people and also contributing to the success of other local community and charitable organisations. Lynette always thinks of others first and is willing to role her sleeves up to do whatever she can to help. She is a huge asset to our club, great fun to have around and always includes everyone in the events and fun she comes up with! I can’t think of anyone more deserving of your award.
