THE GASC AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE BACK!

WEDNESDAY 28TH MAY AND WEDNESDAY 4TH JUNE, 6.00PM-9.00PM, MICHAEL WOODS CENTRE

It’s that time of year again, when our swimmers go head-to-head to see which of them can become our club Age Group Champions for 2025.

On two forthcoming Wednesdays, 28th May and 4th June, the championships will bring together all of our swimmers to take part in swims in six different age groups: 8 Years & Under, 9-10 Years, 11-12 Years, 13-14 Years, 15-16 Years, and 17 Years & Over (note: age is defined as age on 31st May 2025). Exact programme details will be published later, but the events we intend to run are listed below.

We are keen to involve all of our swimmers in this year’s championships, if at all possible. For our younger swimmers, this is an opportunity to try out a new stroke or maybe to swim in a gala for the first time ever! For those who swim in competitions regularly, this is a chance to improve personal best times and gain entry times for important galas. And for those who swim mainly for fitness, why not see if you can beat an old personal best time, or just take part for the fun of it?

Talking about fun, and we aim to have plenty of that, we will also be adding some fun events for adults – watch this space for more information. In our two youngest age groups, just taking part will give the swimmers the opportunity to win a medal, and for the first three in all age groups there will be medals and a trophy for the winner, all presented poolside with parents watching.

So, what do parents and swimmers need to do? We need you to confirm the swims - which by the way and unlike other galas are free of charge – you want to enter. This is done in two ways – firstly our coaches will discuss the swims that they think each squad member should take part in, then secondly, we want parents (particularly for younger age groups) to confirm with our club desk that they are happy with this. For parents who are new to all this, there is always a friendly face at the club desk on Wednesdays who will help out.
